ll the changes to the building codes and vegetative management and is diligently working with City staff and residents to help them prepare for the future. She is passionate about emergency preparedness and will work to keep this as a top priority for our City to protect the residents and business owners. Boyack is vitally concerned about the future financial stability of the City. Poway has always had balanced budgets and healthy reserves but decreasing sales tax, property tax, and the serious downturn in the economy all impact Poway’s ability to stay fiscally sound. She has pushed to reduce the size of several projects to help meet the financial constraints and is actively working with staff on continuing reductions that can be made to the City’s budget to help us continue to be financially stable. This is a high priority for Merrilee and she will continue to work to keep the City’s level of services as high as possible while balancing the budget.
Infrastructure Quality
Merrilee is committed to protecting the excellent standard of living in Poway. That means that we must have good infrastructure. She has supported infrastructure improvements for Oak Knoll and other aging areas of the City. She’s been serving on the Metro Wastewater Commission and actively supports water conservation efforts in the community.

PROMOTE POWAY

Merrilee supports the development of business in Poway. Also, she is working hard with the City and Chamber to help improve and develop business along Poway Road and supports the Town Center project to help increase business in our community. While she understands that a balance is needed between the residents and businesses in Poway, she believes that a healthy and thriving business community is vital to the well-being of the city.

Boyack is also committed to attracting and serving the good businesses in the Poway Business Park as well as other businesses throughout the city.

Boyack is concerned about respect for residents' rights by the City Council. She has consistently reached out to residents who attend the Council meetings and contact the city for help. Merrilee has proven that she will listen to the residents and business owners and take action to help meet their needs. She does so with respect and kindness. She is absolutely committed to defending the rights and needs of the residents of Poway.

Merrilee was a leading force behind many town hall meetings and workshops that have been held since she got elected. She has significantly improved the response time from staff to residents, supported the televising of meetings, worked on the revamped website, and is constantly working to have the residents and business owners of Poway have their voices heard.
Merrilee is also concerned about communication between the City's elected officials and staff and the other sectors of our City including the Poway Unified School District, the service community, business community, and faith community. Through her many years of service in each of these areas, she has developed many relationships and contacts which will serve the City well in the future. She is committed to open dialogue between all these groups to promote Poway's needs and interests. Her commitment to these relationships proved to be invaluable during the Witch Creek Fire as she quickly established a coalition of groups to meet the needs of the residents of our community. She also worked with the various groups on the establishment and success of the Poway Community Leadership Institute. Continuing this commitment is a high priority for Boyack.

Boyack avidly supports the preservation of our Open Spaces and Nature Preserves in Poway. She has proven this by having the city rezone the Arbolitos Sportsfields area to prevent commercial development there. Also, she has supported countless Boy Scout and church service projects to help the city in preserving these areas throughout the city. As a Councilmember, she has actively worked with Community Services and the Parks and Rec Advisory Committee to maintain a high quality of parks and preserves in the City.

Merrilee is committed to preserving the "Country" in our City and will continue to work hard to making this true for the future of Poway.

Let's face it. Most of us came to Poway because it was a great place to raise our families. Merrilee came here with her husband and four sons for that very same reason. A top priority to her for the City of Poway is to make this continue to be a family-supportive environment to help all the families of Poway raise their children.

Merrilee has demonstrated her commitment to the family environment in Poway by her countless hours spent in community service. She has served in many leadership positions in the PTAs of several schools to help that organization promote great schools for our kids. She was Community Chair and worked hard to bring a stellar Boys & Girls Club to Poway. She has helped families in need throughout the community. Boyack has proven that while others may just talk about supporting the family-supportive quality of life in Poway, she actually takes action
