I am announcing that at this time I have made a decision NOT to run for mayor of Poway.

I know this will come as a surprise to many. Over the past month, I have taken the time to ponder this decision carefully. After the past two years of significant health and personal challenges, my perspective on my life and priorities has profoundly changed.

I now choose to focus on my community service as a councilmember and will continue helping the residents of Poway.

Six years ago, I began my journey to become a Poway City Council member.
I made three promises when I ran:

  1. I will listen
  2. I will do my best
  3. I will work hard

I believe that I have done just that.

I have listened to the residents of Poway:
I’ve worked on the following projects:
Many town hall meetings, neighborhood meetings and workshops
Launched outstanding website – invaluable during the wildfires!
      Televising meetings
Improved response time from city staff
Developed Poway Community Leadership Institute to educate and train community leaders.

Personally responded to every request for help from me

Help the city get prepared:

Worked extensively with Safety Services and the Fire Department to do just that!
Encouraged and reviewed increased level of preparedness of city staff.
      Distribute preparedness information to residents.

Worked hard for the residents:
I have worked hard for the residents and I have a long list of completed projects that show my work for the city. see projects. I believe the truest test was what I did during the fires.  I immediately went to the evacuation center and worked day and night helping to coordinate relief efforts for evacuees.  After that, I coordinated the efforts of over 60 volunteer organizations to provide relief efforts to those in Poway and surrounding communities who were hardest hit by the fires.  I’ve been working nonstop even up until today to help the families in Poway who lost their homes.

If there is one thing true about me, when Poway residents need help, I WILL BE THERE.  And so will all of us in our community.  I have seen over and over the amazing heart of this community.  The past year has revealed once again that Poway is a community that cares.  And I care.

Thank you for re-electing me to the City Council so that I may continue listening, working, and doing my best for you and your family.  Thank you for your support.
